On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, Al-Ajwad Hall at Al-Naba Company for Production and Catering Services hosted an extensive workshop entitled “Towards Cleaner Production and Sustainable Development in the Industrial Sector.” The event was held under the patronage of the Ministry of Industry and Minerals and organized by the National Industry Promotion Authority, under the slogan: “The Impact of Cleaner Production on the Competitive Advantage of National Industrial Products.”

This workshop came as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to promote the principles of sustainable development within the industrial sector, enhance the quality of local products, and reduce industrial pollutants resulting from traditional production processes—thereby achieving a balance between economic efficiency and environmental protection.

The workshop commenced at 9:00 a.m. with participant registration, followed by a recitation from the Holy Qur’an and the national anthem.
The opening remarks were delivered by a representative of the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, who emphasized the importance of adopting cleaner production policies as a strategic choice that ensures both environmental safety and economic competitiveness.
A representative from the National Industry Promotion Authority then highlighted the Authority’s efforts to strengthen industrial institutions’ capacities to comply with standard specifications and transition toward sustainable production practices.
The State Planning Authority also presented a speech stressing the need to align economic policies with environmental imperatives. The opening session concluded with a presentation by the event’s sponsor.

Scientific sessions began at 11:05 a.m., focusing on the theme of cleaner production and its relationship with sustainable development—particularly the role of industrial institutions in minimizing waste and emissions.
Mr. Aqila Al-Senousi, Chairman of the National Industry Promotion Initiative, delivered a lecture on the concept of the carbon footprint, methods of measuring emissions, and strategies for their reduction through better input–output management and the implementation of ISO 14001 standards.

The workshop also discussed environmental frameworks and legislation that ensure cleaner production, emphasizing the legal systems regulating industrial waste and emissions. Another session explored the role of national and international standards in improving product quality and enhancing the competitiveness of national industries both domestically and globally.
Participants also reviewed practical experiences in converting waste into raw materials that can be reintegrated into the production cycle—contributing to lower operating costs and reduced environmental impact. Moreover, the workshop highlighted the importance of promoting corporate social responsibility within industrial institutions as a key pillar of sustainable economic activity.

Scientific discussions throughout the workshop addressed various types of industrial pollutants, including air pollutants from exhaust gases and fine particles, water pollution resulting from industrial chemical use, and soil contamination caused by untreated solid waste. National and international permissible limits for these pollutants were reviewed, along with effective control methods.

The workshop concluded at 12:35 p.m. with an awards ceremony honoring participants and supporting organizations, followed by a luncheon that provided a setting for the exchange of views and experiences among attendees from various sectors.

This workshop reflects a genuine commitment to advancing the national industrial sector based on modern scientific and environmental principles—ensuring the protection of natural resources, the sustainability of production, and greater confidence in the quality and competitiveness of national products in both local and international markets.
